Lax Stringing Clinic - Sunday June 2nd
posted 5/18/2013 by SierraFoothillsLacrosseClub
We are hosting a Lax Stick Stringing Clinic for Sunday, June 2nd, from 10am to 12 noon, at the Del Oro Girls Soccer Field.   The purpose is learn how to re-string and adjust your lacrosse stick to suit your target performance and perhaps customize it to your liking.    Kevin Busch, WCLL All-League Midfielder with UC Davis Lacrosse to come out and show us how it's done.  Kevin currently performs custom string jobs for top players at all levels (CIF high school, College Club, NCAA D1) with over 10 years experience.   This is invaluable knowledge for all players and coaches.  Some of the skills that will be conveyed are:

- pocket types (soft mesh vs. hard mesh, high vs. low pockets and why)
- what the strings do (sidewall, shooting string, pocket placement, etc.)
- different stringing patterns to achieve varying characteristics
- specific knots used in each area
- how and why to make proper adjustments (weather, too much whip, etc.)
- practice stringing your own pocket with your unique performance goals
- evaluate your setup and do final tuneup
- go out on the field and have fun experimenting

As this is an event for players of all ages, we strongly encourage parents to attend as well for players at the U-11 and U-13 level. The plan is to meet at the Del Oro girls' soccer field, located behind the pool / buildings and the stadium.  Park in the east parking lot near the pool.    Participants can assemble beside the field to sign in and learn stringing techniques from 10am to 11am, then you can take the field to test and adjust your pockets.   We reserved the girls field for the whole 2 hours so other family members not doing the stringing clinic can use the field & goals while the new pockets are being made.

Admission is free to observers:  Lesson cost is $10 per player/stick for regular sticks, $15 for Goalies.

Bring a ball and your stick with pocket stringing kit (mesh, side & throwing strings, available at Lacrosse Fanatic) OR just bring new strings (nylon cord and athletic shoe laces) of the same length of your originals if you want to re-use your existing mesh.   The advantage of a new kit is that you can assemble a new kit using your own custom colors, and you may need new mesh anyway.
